Masculine Monday

Where Eagles Fly
My father collected eagles like I collect giraffes. I am always reminded of him when I see an eagle.
This eagle is from the In Wilderness set. I was reminded yesterday that I haven’t used coloring for awhile so I took out my blender pens, ink pads and color pencils and colored my stamp. I enjoyed it. It is always fun to color and when you do it this way, as opposed to coloring in a coloring book – which I still do from time-to-time – others don’t take a second look at you.
So, if you haven’t in awhile, take out you Stampin’ Up! Crayons, color pencils, and blender pens and have fun coloring!

Happy Halloween On Masuline Monday

I have put together a scrap page for my DH of one of our first Halloweens together. He made these outfits for us down to every detail. His craft is modeling. He free forms some of his models and uses different parts from different kits or other items and builds his own ideas. That is what he did with the pieces that he wore that night.
I feel very connected in our crafts even though they are in many ways different. It is nice to have someone who understands creativity.
I did make this page using My Digital Studio. I am finding myself using it more and more. There are so many stamps I don't have in hand but I have, and will have for ever, in MDS.
Tonight I will be working and Henry is helping out some friends, so, alas, we will be apart for much of the evening.
Hope your Halloween is a happy and creative one.

I am so excited!!

I just added a new header to my blog!! I designed it with My Digital Studio. I know, many others have done it but I am somewhat technically challenged. I was just sitting her on the couch with my DH and started 'expressing my excitement' when it worked. He looked at me strange but then was happy for me. I just had to share. So, what do you think?
I plan to use it also on my newsletters. Don't get my newsletter? It is easy, just click on the subscribe to our newsletter in the upper left of my blog here. I send a newsletter out once a month with our latest promotions, a schedule of my classes, and tips and ideas for crafting projects. I would love to have you join my mailing list and be in on all the latest information and savings.

Masculine Monday goes My Digital Studio

Original Design

My Masculine Redesign

I was running late on a Masculine project for today so I thought I would turn to My Digital Studio (MDS) and see what I could do with a pre-designed card. The first card is what the card looked like originally in MDS. With MDS you could print this card as is and not have to do anything else, for those times when you truly are at the last minute, and if you were in need of a more feminine card. Or if you have a few minutes you could change a few items as I did.
I switched out the background paper, changed the ribbon color, and replaced the flower with a more manly star brad.
So, what do you think? Does it fit the bill for a Bill?
There is so much you can do with MDS. If you are interested let me know and I would be happy to talk with you about all the possibilities you have with My Digital Studio.

Isn’t this adorable?

A Tootsie Pop Pumpkin!
Our Up-line, Jill Coleman, crafted these for us as our swap for our last meeting. I have recreated one here that I gave as a hostess thank you last week.
These are made by gluing together six large ovals from our ovals die for the Big Shot. Use the 1 3/8” circle punch to create the hole in the middle for the Tootsie Pop.
Call me when you are ready to claim your FREE Big Shot by joining Stampin’ Up! before Oct. 31!

Masculine Monday

I just love fall and all the colors of the leaves. I tried to capture that today with my Masculine Monday card.
Yes, one can stamp the leaves in fall colors but I wanted to do something a little different and still use several fall colors. I first stamped the leaf in Soft Suede and the used Versa Mark and stamped over the Soft Suede leaf, added some clear embossing power and then heated. I did this also with the Thank You. Once you emboss the added colors do not adhere to the embossed sections. I then took my sponge dauber and the ink pads Cajun Craze, Always Artichoke, and Cherry Cobbler and daubed those colors all over the card stock.
To give it dimension, and that manly look, I then tore the edges off, daubed the edges with Cajun Craze, and then – eek – I crumbled it into a ball. I know this may be hard to do at first, will; it was for me when I started using this technique. You have just made a really nice stamp and then you crumble it; it just doesn’t seem right at first. I got used to it because I love the look it gives, especially for fall and men projects.
If you give it a try this week send me an email, I would love to see what you made, or ‘leaf’ a comment and tell me about your experience crumbling a stamped piece.

Masculine Monday

My card this week gets to serve three purposes. One, I get to share it with you as my masculine Monday card. Secondly, it will be my brother’s birthday card. Third, it was my swap card last Tuesday at our Icy Inkers group meeting.
Yes, as demonstrators in our Icy Inkers group we get to meet once a month to share celebrations, ideas, and swaps. I say that we “get to” because as a demonstrator with Stampin’ Up! there are NO required meetings. My up-line supports us with a once a month meeting that we can attend if we choose. There is no pressure to attend, it is my choice, and if I miss a meeting it is not a big deal, other than I am missed. ; ) The most important reason I choose attend is because I have so much FUN sharing in what I and the others have accomplished, the complements we give and receive, the great new ideas we share with each other, and I come home with about ten great projects.
If this sounds like some fun you would like to part of I would love to have you join us and be part of my team! Don’t forget, this month when you join Stampin’ Up! you get a free Big Shot or an extra $100.00 worth of stamp sets. Call me today I would love to help you get signed up and have you join in on the fun.

Hybrids

Hybrid cars are the all the rage these days. So, how about a hybrid scrap page? I had this great sheet of paper from our Cheerful Treat DSP (One of our hostess only specials on page 11 of our catalog). Now I am usually not one for pink but I have decided to start a scrapbook of me and what better way to start it than with my baby picture and what better color than a pink. I haven’t had a need for baby stamp sets and so therefore have none. But then the light bulb went on in my head. I have some in My Digital Studio (MDS). So, I started designing my layout in MDS. I printed my layout with only the printing that I wanted on a piece of regular print paper. I then used Dotto to hold my 6x6 DSP on top of the area that the items I wanted printed were at. I then ran it through again so that the printing was where I wanted it on the DSP. After I had the printing I then added the punched strip behind the picture, the picture, and the bow.
I had so much fun making this and figuring out how I could get the prints I wanted on to my DSP. If you have any My Digital Studio questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Remember, once you have a stamp set and color in MDS you have it forever to use.

Masculine Monday and clearance items uses

I was using up some of my retired paper this past week and covered some mini (4.5”x3.5”) composition books that I picked up at the store in a pack of three for $1.00. Most of them turned out more for us ladies but I made sure I covered one to show here for my Masculine Monday. With the new list of clearance items I thought, “This makes a great connection.” I used some of last year’s Elegant Soiree DSP – which is no longer available - but I did see Travel Journal DSP from our summer mini in the clearance rack. That would be a wonderful choice to use to cover one of these little note books for the man in your life.
I covered them with a 6x6 sheet of DSP. That would be four books covered with one 12x12 sheet of DSP! I used coordinating card stock, in this case Baja Breeze, to cover the spine and inside covers. I added a little embellishment with a section of the large stamp from Lovely as a Tree stamped with Soft Suede and a touch of Garden Green on Very Vanilla. I placed this on top of a square of Night of Navy. All of the colors coordinate with the colors of the Designer Serious Paper I used. That is what is so great about Stampin’ Up! products, everything coordinates so easily ;)
Hope your week goes well!!

Masculine Monday – Get Well

I feel I never have enough masculine cards available for last minute needs; I have three boys, a husband, his friends, and friends with spouses. So I have decided to start a Masculine Monday theme. Every Monday I will be posting a masculine card to share with all of you.
My first one here is a get well card, but you could change the greeting to be what you may need it for. I used Soft Suede for my background and More Mustard to offset it. The stamp sets are Autumn Days and Delightful Dozen. I used the Square Lattice Impressions Folder for the Big Shot for texture and a few brads for embellishment – men don’t go for the frilly things. The Curly Label was used to punch out the greeting and I used my Cutter Kit to rub the edges of the Very Vanilla down to show the Soft Suede.
To get the depth of the wheat I used the masking technique. If you don’t know about this technique leave a comment and I would be glad to get together and show you how it is done. To purchase any of the products see the list below and go to my online store.
Hope your week goes well!!

Flowers almost gone, but not here

I know, the flowers are almost gone but I was given a challenge and felt the need to take it up. This was a sketch layout we were given and this is what I did with it. It was fun to do something springy - is that a word? after having done Christmas card designs this week. Also the day looks very fallish outside - computer doesn't like that word ;) The weather here keeps going from sunshine to wind and sprinkles, just can't make up it's mind.
Hope you have had a great weekend and if you decide to take the sketch challenge leave a comment and I would love to take a look at yours.

Quick and easy gift

I picked up a giant clothes pin at the box craft store the other day; I think I will be getting some more. It is that time of year and I am starting to make Christmas gifts for friends and family. Yes, we generally give out home made gifts from our home and they are all much loved. They are small items but then they get more. This is what I did with the clip in no time at all.
I used our Cheerful Treat DSP, available to hostesses only, to cover the sides and then added some of our Paper Daisies sponged with Lucky Limeade, Melon Mambo, and Concord Crush. I centered a Designer Brad to hold them together and the attached them to the clip. These could be used to hold photos, recipes, or even a card, and makes wonderful gift.
If you want to be able to purchase this Designer Series Paper, shown on page 11 of our catalog, or learn how to make quick easy gifts for your friends and family then call or leave a comment and I would be happy to help you be a hostess and share my ideas with you!

It's the Koko bean!

This is our dog Koko, lovingly called 'the Koko bean'. This was taken when he was a puppy, about four years ago. He now weighs a whopping 87 lbs. with stilts for legs. I made this with our My Digital Studio. We had a class at our group meeting, the Icy Inkers, and we learned a few new things about using MDS and shading. This is the page I made that evening in less than 30 minutes. What do you think?
I just had a recent customer get her MDS at half price and received two of the latest CD's FREE!
If you would like to learn more about My Digital Studio, and possibly get your own MDS at half price, or even free, give me a call (360) 888-7627 and I would be glad to show you how.

Medallion Wreath

Here it is. My completed project using the Simply Scored! I had so much fun making this. Yes, I know, it is only September but Christmas is just around the corner.
I made this for my mother. When she received the Holiday Mini in the mail she raved over it. She doesn't do "crafts" but really loved this edition. She loved the wreath on page 6 of the Holiday Mini and she loved the Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Paper Series, page 20. So, I combined the two. What do you think? This is going to be just one of her presents. She is coming to visit us for Christmas and I plan to have this hanging on her bedroom door when she arrives. I can't wait for her to see it.
If you would like to make your own Medallion Wreath give me a call and I can help you order the needed items and show you how it's done. I would be happy to help you make wonderful decorations for your family too.

The Stampin’ Up! Cutter Kit

This was my first Stampin’ Up! purchase some six years ago. I liked the portability of this cutting tool.
It has a rotary cutter to cut your paper, a perforating tool – use for coupons or book marks to be removable from a card, a scoring edge to score and better fold your paper, and, my favorite, the 7-sided distressing tool. That gray round thing.
I have found myself returning to this tool many times over the years. After I posted yesterday I realized that I forgot to mention it.
Here you can see a close-up of where I used it on the card. Just a little rubbing from the distressing tool on the edges and it really gives a project some added dimension, no longer a flat boring card, without having to add a lot of layers or frilly stuff, important on a masculine card.
If you want to add dimension to your card you can order this from my web site. It is on page 208 of the 2011-2012 Idea book and catalog.

Quick and Simple Masculine Card

Here is a quick and easy birthday card. I will be sending this off to my cousin this week. Our birthdays are the same day, Sept. 5th. Happy Birthday Chuck!
I started with the Designer Series Paper from the Paisley Petals and wasn’t sure which colors to pair it with so I went to trusty Color Coach – 120148 (page 174). I love this product and use it all the time. I looked up Bravo Burgundy, as that is the color of the DSP, and went with the Creative Combination using River Rock for the base of the card. I added a strip of Baja Breeze card stock and used that same color for the ink on Whisper White. I didn’t want to use ribbon or buttons so I went with a little bit of or Hemp Twine to add some dimension.
This was quick, simple and easy. I had it made in just a matter of a few minutes. I would love to show you how quick and easy card making is. Leave a comment and I would be happy to help you host a workshop with you and your friends and you could earn the stamp set I use for free as it is from one of our new hostess only sets Happiest Birthday Wishes.
Hope you are having a wonderful Monday!!

Using the Glitter Window technique

Here is the card I designed for the piece I showed yesterday. I wanted to highlight the piece so it is front and center – sort of. I usually square my stuff off but I have found – through my Stampin’ Up! business that I am liking the “not so squared off” look of things so I went all out with this and slanted all the layers. It is so fun to learn to like new and different things.
This is also one of my favorite color combinations – Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight, and Cherry Cobbler.

What is your favorite color combo?
Leave a comment and I might try your idea in a later post.

Glitter Window

I have been cleaning and rearranging my room the past few weeks and came across this piece and thought to myself, “How pretty. How did I do that?” After looking it over for a few seconds I remembered that this was a sample I made for the Glitter Window technique.
What is the Glitter Window technique? Well, here it is.
Glitter Window-
First you punch a piece of card stock with your favorite punch. I used Early Espresso and punched it with the Fancy Flower punch. You then place a strip of packing tape behind the punch making sure that the sticky side shows through the front. You then press the card stock with the sticky side of the tape into our Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. I then attached a 5-Petal Flower punch in Cherry Cobbler to a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock, the same size at the Early Espresso piece. I then attached that to the back of the Early Espresso piece centering the 5-Petal Flower in the Dazzling Fancy Flower window.
Check back tomorrow to see how I use this piece on a card.

I Did It!

I have been wanting to do this layout for about two years now. I am sure many of you have seen this before but I haven't made one until yesterday. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I can't wait to send it off to my mother, her birthday is coming up Feb. 4th. I feel like I am sending her flowers for a steal, and these ones won't die off:) I know that she will be excited too when she see's it.
I hear comments from others that they don't have time to make cards. But, really, this took less time than looking on the internet and trying to find just the right flowers at a price I could afford, which would have cost more than having to buy the materials, yes, that would mean the punches, ink pad, stamps and so forth, to make this card. It is so easy and way more affordable and once you have the materials you can make so much more.
Anyway, just wanted to share my happiness with this card. If you have any questions leave me a comment. Enjoy your day and Happy Crafting!!!!!!!

Hi

I know I have been away for awhile. New job in November, Christmas, now, computer issues. I am on a computer that isn't mine at the moment and just wanted to let you all know I am still here. I should have my computer back by Monday and I will be getting back into posting again. I am planning some fun classes for the next few months. Please check back soon.
